Our Mission
The John W. Hughan Foundation focuses on providing opportunities for engagement and development in music, athletics, and service activities for youth. Following his passions, we seek to provide support for civic, religious, and charitable organizations with similar missions, and in doing so, honor the life, character, and passions of John W. Hughan.
MUSIC
John was an accomplished trumpet player displaying this gift in school band, church and regional honor bands including SEMSBA and MMEA Southeastern District.
We hope to inspire young musicians and provide access to opportunities and experiences that foster this talent and love of music.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
John was a Boy Scout focused on receiving his Eagle Scout rank. He had achieved his Life rank and was in the process of working on his Eagle Scout project. We hope to support other Boy Scouts on their path to becoming an Eagle Scout.
Through church and Boy Scouts John would volunteer several times a year for various service projects. He prepared meals and served to those in need, participated in street outreach in Boston providing food, socks, and toiletries, and packed food for those who are hungry in New England and beyond. We plan to continue to support youth in providing service and outreach in their communities.
SPORTS
John worked hard to hone his skills in multiple sports including soccer, sailing, golf, and lacrosse.
He was passionate about lacrosse and soccer playing for his Norwell town teams and Laxachusetts and Mass City club teams. He loved golf and playing rounds with his dad at Eastward Ho on Cape Cod, even beating him once. John enjoyed all aspects of the water on powerboats and racing both Opti’s and 420’s.
Our goal is to continue to provide access to these opportunities for youth to foster this same love and success.
